Permanent Medial Epicanthoplasty — What is it?

Medial epicanthoplasty is a surgery that opens the inner eye corner to moderately expose the lacrimal lake.
SISUN Plastic Surgery's medial epicanthoplasty does not simply extend the 'length' of the inner eye corner,
but can also correct the 'shape' of the inner eye corner when lacrimal lake exposure is minimal or the epicanthal fold is severe.
When the intercanthal distance is wide, opening the downward-angled inner eye corner
also proportionally adjusts the facial ratio.

Epicanthal Fold — What is it?

Epicanthal Fold commonly seen in Asian eyes
One characteristic of Korean eyes is that the inner eye corners are covered by the Mongolian fold (epicanthal fold).
This epicanthal fold covers the inner eye corner, creating a hook-shaped appearance and hiding the front double eyelid crease line.
Additionally, it covers the pupil, making the eyes look constricted and fierce.
In such cases, Removing the Mongolian fold is necessary to achieve an ideal eye appearance.
Various Forms of Medial Epicanthoplasty Epicanthal Fold

  • Constricted inner eye corner

  • Vertically elongated epicanthal fold

If medial epicanthoplasty is performed too aggressively, the lacrimal lake becomes excessively exposed, causing hook-shaped deformity and scarring at the inner eye corner.
Therefore, the most important aspect when performing medial epicanthoplasty is
moderately exposing the lacrimal lake while correcting the shape of the inner eye corner.
